Sir Paul McCartney has unveiled a deeply personal new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, marking his return to solo music after more than five years.
The 83-year-old music icon confirmed the record will be released on 29 May 2026, alongside the debut of its lead single, Days We Left Behind, which premiered on BBC Radio Merseyside.
Nostalgic Return to Liverpool Roots
The forthcoming album is said to be among McCartney’s most introspective works, drawing heavily on his childhood in Liverpool, particularly the working-class area of Speke where he grew up.
The title itself references Dungeon Lane, a road close to his former home on Forthlin Road, and features prominently in the themes of the record. The singer has described the lead single as a “memory song”, reflecting on his early life and the formative years before global fame with The Beatles.
The track also includes subtle references to figures such as John Lennon, highlighting the enduring influence of McCartney’s early friendships and experiences.
First Solo Album Since McCartney III
The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be McCartney’s 19th solo studio album and his first since 2020’s McCartney III.
The 14-track record has been described as a blend of styles spanning his career, combining melodic storytelling with elements reminiscent of both The Beatles and Wings. Production duties are shared with acclaimed producer Andrew Watt, known for collaborations with major international artists.
Carefully Crafted Over Several Years
Reports indicate that the album has been developed over several years, with recording sessions taking place between tour commitments in locations including Los Angeles and Sussex.
The project is understood to have evolved organically, allowing McCartney to revisit personal memories and shape them into a cohesive narrative centred on youth, identity and the passage of time.
